If this is your first experience with acupuncture, we are so glad you chose us!  We will let you know the process from beginning to end and answer all of your questions. By the second and third visits you will wonder why you didn’t try acupuncture sooner.

Below is information you will find helpful in preparing for your initial acupuncture visit. Please read this page thoroughly and/or print for your records. At Eastlake Acupuncture of San Diego, we promote communication between patient and practitioner. If you have questions or concerns, we are always available to answer them. Providing acupuncture services to residents of San Diego County for 15 years.

What to Know Before your First Acupuncture Appointment

  • Wear loose clothing.
  • Eat a healthy meal. Do not come hungry or full; but if you are hungry we can provide a snack.
  • Try not to consume caffeine products prior to your treatments because this will inhibit the relaxation process.
  • Fill out the New Patient health history form that was emailed to you before you arrive to your first appointment.

  • Note: This office does not bill private health insurance. We are however a contracted provider with VA Community Care.
  • Please be prepared to pay out of pocket for services at the time of your appointment.
  • We DO accept all HSA and FSA debit cards.

What to Expect at Your First Acupuncture Appointment

  • The first visit is approximately 1 hour.
  • Come to your appointment 20-30 minutes early, having already completed the New Patient intake form online (sent via email.)
  • Please note:  this office follows a strict cancellation policy found in the emailed New Patient Consent Forms.
  • Your Practitioner will greet you in the waiting room. At your appointment start time you will be taken back to a very comfortable and relaxing treatment room. The first 5-10 minutes include a brief health history regarding your chief complaint(s).  The goals of your treatment and prognosis will be discussed, as well as how you can expect to feel after your acupuncture treatment.
  • The practitioner will step out of the room so that you can get comfortable on the treatment table. The practitioner will ask you to roll your sleeves up and pant legs up. If you are coming in with shoulder pain, back pain or abdominal pain, you will be asked to remove your shirt and lay face down on a massage table so that the practitioner can easily access these areas. All treatments are done within your comfort level.
  • The practitioner will re-enter the room and begin placement of 15 to 30 sterile needles at specific acupuncture points to address your pain or disorders. Patients generally say the feeling of the needles are a tap, short poke then maybe a warm sensation. If anything is too uncomfortable, the practitioner will readjust the patient for maximum comfort. However, please be aware that in coming to an acupuncturist, the ‘tools of the trade’ are needles. Therefore, if you believe you may have a phobia of needles, a gentler modality such as massage, may be a better choice for you.
  • You will then rest in the soothing private room for 20 to 40 minutes depending on the problems being treated. Patients in almost all cases become very relaxed and sometimes fall asleep.
  • After the appropriate amount of time has lapsed, the practitioner will re-enter the room, and remove the needles. At this point, patients generally feel content and relaxed.
  • The practitioner will exit the room again, allowing you to dress. You may then leave the room to be checked out at the front desk.
  • When you are checking out, payment is due in full at that time.
  • You will be asked to make at least 3 more follow up appointments at the time of checking out. Acupuncture and Chinese medicine is a process and generally takes at least 8 to 10 treatments before significant long lasting results may be seen. For acute conditions, 4 to 6 bi-weekly treatments can be expected to reduce symptoms. For chronic conditions 6 or more weekly or bi-weekly treatments will be needed, depending on how long you have suffered with the condition.

Policy on Cancellations, No Shows and Late Arrivals

As an individual healthcare provider, it is the office policy of Dr. Nadia Ayadi, DTCM LAc and Eastlake Acupuncture Inc to require 24 hours notice for the cancellation of any appointment. If you cancel with less than 24 hours notice or fail to attend a scheduled appointment, you will owe a fee of $50 before you can schedule a future appointment.

If you are more than 5 minutes late, your appointment will be canceled upon your late arrival because a full acupuncture treatment will not be possible. Tardiness would also affect other patient treatments. A tardy appointment fee of $50 will apply.  As an individual healthcare provider,  Dr. Ayadi cannot accommodate late arrivals due to time constraints and the number of treatment rooms available to her.

Please understand that by scheduling an appointment at this office you are committing to arriving on that day at that time.  At the second tardy appointment, running late or less than 24 hour notice cancellation, you will be immediately dismissed from this practice due to non-compliance.

There will be no exceptions to this policy, thank you for understanding.
